ith a love and appreciation for the culture and religion of Morocco, Sirin and Jason traveled to this North African oasis of ancient beauty to celebrate their wedding. But before they exchanged their vows, they explored the Medina in Marrakesh, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the “old town” to go to since the 11th century for trade and exotic shopping experiences.

Nestled in the Red City, lively open-air marketplaces called souks transported them into a world of intricate lanterns, rich fabrics, artisanal woodwork, and polished ceramics. The ornate architecture of the Medina alone is inspiring for any couple looking for romance in the mystic!

One of Jason and Sirin's favorite parts of exploring the city was interacting with the local vendors. Everything is negotiable in the souk, but you must make friends with the vendors first -- otherwise the chances of getting a good deal is very low.

My husband noticed the yellow loafers a man in the souk was wearing, and he asked him where his shoes were from. He told him, "I make them." Jason loved them, so he asked if he could purchase a pair. To our initial surprise, he was immediately rejected. "No, I don't know you. Come back tomorrow, and let’s have a chat," the man stated. So we returned the next day, learned about the man, Aziz, and his story. We were allowed to look at the shoes after that.

The spices of Morocco were also a source of inspiration for these two lovebirds' destination style. Inspired by the vibrant hues of turmeric, Sirin even designed and created her own mini yellow kimono for this special trip. When paired with a deep teal long skirt from Max Mara and white Hermès slide sandals, it was a beautiful fashionable nod to the culture and energy of one of Morocco’s most enchanting cities.
